From the writings of Kahlil Gibran: And there are those who give, and know not the pain in giving, nor do they seek joy, nor give with the mindfulness of virtue. Through the hands of such as these God speaks, and from behind their eyes, he smiles upon the Earth.

Katherine Wiley Blesses Abbey
This past week Katherine Wiley, with her proud mother Miryam looking on at the end of the Peacemakers Table, presented Lewis Randa with a contribution of over $150.00, which she raised at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Wellesley, MA.

At the close of a recent church service, this young activist with a heart, and graduate of the Life Experience School, stood before her congregation and spoke of the needs of the Peace Abbey. She said she would be at coffee hour to discuss with others her love of the Abbey, the work undertaken here, and why they should pitch in and help. And that they did--contributing generously not only for the Abbey, but for this beautiful young lady who felt so strongly about making the world a better place. To Katherine, keeping the Abbey open was one concrete way of doing just that.

Thank you, Katherine, for being an example of love in action. We are so grateful and touched by your spirit of service.
Stained Glass Dove of Peace Donated to Abbey
A beautiful peace panel in the shape of a peace dove was given to the Abbey in loving memory of Rev. Dr. Christa Dixon, the orginator of Peacemaking Panels. Christa was an ordained Presbyterian Pastor, peacemaker, artist and was awarded the Peacemaking Award from the Peacemaking Committee of the Grace Prebyery of the Presbyterian Church of the U.S.A.

Christa's stained-glass panels grace the chapels in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, South Africa, Egypt, Dresden, Germany, Israel, and the Peace Abbey. We are deeply honored to have this panel made in her memory. It was given with a prayer that when looking at the dove of peace, hearts will open to the oneness of all and rejoice with gratitude and lightness of being.

The gift was from Emily Schultz, Denise Feeney and Rita House.

JEWELS FOR PEACE
A gift of over $100,000 worth of rare, estate jewelry (one of a kind) was gifted to the Peace Abbey in an effort to keep the Abbey solvent. In the words of the contributor, "these pieces of jewelry were given to me by my ex-husband who bought them to make me happy. They didn't make me happy then, but do now in giving them in the name of peace to save the Abbey." This wonderfully generous individual lives in a suburb of Des Moines, Iowa and visited the Abbey for the first time in mid-August.
As a result of this gift, we are starting the JEWELS FOR PEACE campaign to inform those who have valuable "bling" in their jewelry drawer or in a safe deposit box in some bank that they can offer it to the Abbey and put it to work for peace. All contributions must be appraised by the donor for tax deduction purposes.

All donated items are held by a local jewelry store and are not kept on the property. More on this to follow. Please pass the word.
13th ANNUAL BOSTON VEGETARIAN POTLUCK AT THE ABBEY

Another terrific gathering of people who "live their love for animals" by not having them killed for their food. Saying no to animal exploitation and yes to life is what the afternoon celebrated along with sampling of delicious, home-cooked vegan dishes and inspirational conversation amongst attenders.

A special thanks to Evelyn Kimber and our wonderful friends at the Boston Vegetarian Society for hosting several hundred people at their 13th Annual Vegan Potluck at the Peace Abbey. The 125 course meal was beyond description with culinary tastes unavailable anywhere but an occasion such as this.

Over a dozen volunteers from BVS and the Abbey handled every detail of the afternoon which included Andy Celley playing keyboard at the newly opened Emily's Roadhouse and Brian Cron and Madeline Champagne working tirelessly prior to the event and throughout. BVS volunteers were extraordinary in the kitchen -- serving hundreds of hungry attenders and cleaning up afterwards so everyone could gather to hear the inspiring words of Will Tuttle as he spoke about his new book "World Peace Diet" at the UU Church in Sherborn that always opens its doors to us. Will blessed the ocassion not only with his message of nonviolence but also by playing two beautiful, self composed, piano compositions for the well-being of animals. Dot Walsh had the pleasure of making the presentation of the Peace Abbey Courage of Conscience Award to Will Tuttle. Her words will be included in the upcoming page about the event.

Over $3,000 was contributed for the Abbey's monthly operational costs through this one event! A heartfelt thank you to everyone who reached out to help us.

The Peace Abbey Scholarship Award went to Sarah Cullen and Marisa Picariello, Dover Sherborn Seniors who interned at the Abbey this past semester. Their involvement in the program furthered the message of peace within the Boston area and empowered people to do what they can to express their desire for nonviolent resolution to conflict in the world.

We express our thanks to the many people who keep the Peace Abbey going in so many ways:

For the many calls, emails, prayers, contributions and efforts to save the Peace Abbey, we extend our deep appreciation. Once enough people know about our difficulties, enough people will offer to help. Offering without being asked is our lifeline to the future. We need only get the word out. See column to the left.

BLESSED BY VOLUNTEERS
- We are very grateful and appreciative of all the volunteers who help us to serve our guests and visitors at The Peace Abbey. Gratitude is often spoken of as a way of being in the world which allows us be aware of the many gifts and blessings that come our way. Gratitude opens our hearts and allows us to be thankful in the moment and throughout the day.

With this in mind we would like to thank Madeline Champagne and Brian Cron who come on a weekly basis to help out at The Peace Abbey. They have a clear sense of what needs to be done and go about their work in a quiet and respectful way. They clean the guesthouse and the museum-conference center, help with the animals, show up early for events so that they can greet people and do whatever needs to be done and much more. It is such a joy and blessing to have volunteers who are our friends and among the best friends of The Peace Abbey.
