A Peace Abbey honor
posted online July 29, 2008
Folks considering making a token donation to a charity in memory of
a recently departed friend or family member might give some thought
to donating to The Peace Abbey in Sherborn. Over a quarter century
the Abbey on Rte. 27, with its familiar statues of Gandhi and Mother
Theresa on the front lawn, has clearly earned its stripes as a vanguard
force for peaceful conflict resolution.
And this time in our national history seems to be a particularly significant
moment to advocate for peace.
The staff at the Abbey are very open to visits from the public and
encourage interest from folks traveling by. Their buildings and grounds
are a treasure trove of 20th century history and it's hard to tear
oneself away after just one visit.
We personally have found when donating to the Abbey that staff immediately
follow up with acknowledgment to both the family members of the remembered
person as well as to the donor. In addition to learning more about
the Abbey, everyone is also made aware of the thoughtful contribution
made in memory of their loved one as well.
